3 Fixture Insights to Help Aussie Pubs Make October a Knockout Month

🥊 Boxing - Big Bouts. Big Misses.

Boxing continues to punch above its weight when it comes to fan interest, but too many venues are still leaving easy wins on the table.

Case in point: Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Sunday 14th September, 11am.

A dream pre-lunch viewing window. Solid search traffic. Barely any pubs showing it.

We get that it was a PPV – but that’s also what could’ve made it a real point of difference. In a market where many are hesitant, taking the plunge on these premium events can set you apart from the crowd.

October’s shaping up nicely with more accessible Sunday bouts such as Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley – Sunday 27th October.

✔️ Daytime slot
✔️ No code clashes
✔️ Recognisable names

These kinds of events are gold when you want to bring in sports fans without stepping on NRL or AFL toes. Show the fights, build the habit.

Wallabies Convert Lions Bounce

After decades in the doldrums, 2025 feels like a pivotal year for Australia’s most beleaguered code. Despite the Wallabies tailing away in the final rounds, searches for pubs showing The Rugby Championship are up 56% vs 2024.

Whilst the Lions tour was always going to drive significant interest, thrilling wins over world champions South Africa and a last gasp comeback against the Pumas have built on that final Test match and breathed new life into rugby union.

The good news for pubs is we’re just four weeks out from fans getting their next fix - with juicy matchups against England, Italy, Ireland and France.

And whilst the kick off times are far from ideal, the scarcity of options for union fans will reward any venues who make the effort to show the games.

⚽️ Early Soccer – Start Building That Base

Premier League fans are loyal and they’re willing to brave early kick-offs.

How do we know? Because despite its anti-social schedule it’s now the 4th most searched competition in Australian pubs.

The challenge for venues who aren’t ready to go all-in on supplies of midnight oil is how do you build a reputation for English soccer?

The key is the regular 10–11pm Saturday kick offs.

Consider the next one in the calendar:
Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea – Saturday 18th October, 10:30pm AEDT

✔️ Saturday night
✔️ Great lead-in for late trade
✔️ Big Ange in the dugout

You don’t have to show every 3am fixture. But the more you can lean into these mid-evening or late-night slots now, the more likely fans are to default to your venue when the title race heats up.
