Queens Head, Tamworth

A decade of rural success - why one of FANZO's longest standing customers remain loyal.

For the past ten years, the Queens Head in Tamworth has been one of FANZO’s longest-running independent customers. We sat down with Steve Lester, manager of the pub, to understand exactly how FANZO has helped it thrive as a go-to spot for sports fans for over a decade.

Deciding To Invest In Sport

Nestled in the heart of Tamworth, a historic market town just north of Birmingham, the Queens Head is a lovely community pub housed in a former coaching inn that’s over 400 years old.

In 2015, the Queens Head decided to invest in Sky Sports. But they knew that simply having the channels wasn’t enough - they needed to let people know. That’s when they discovered FANZO (formerly known as MatchPint).

Making Every Penny Count

Steve, recalls why FANZO was the perfect answer for a common problem:

“There are six pubs in the area, but we’re the only one that shows Sky and TNT. We knew we had to make the most of that advantage by getting the word out about what we were showing. Back in 2015, MatchPint was the only solution that let us properly advertise our fixtures - and ten years later, it still is!”

Over the years, FANZO has become a key part of the pub’s operations, helping them maximise the value of their sports subscriptions. The platform enables them to effortlessly list their fixtures, ensuring that local sports fans always know what’s on.

Simple To Use And A Real Time Saver

For Steve, one of the biggest benefits of FANZO is its ease of use:

“It’s dead simple. Right from the start, the training videos made it easy to get the hang of things. I can log in every few weeks, update what we’re showing, and be done in less than ten minutes. The ability to filter fixtures by date, sport, and competition makes planning so much easier. Verses manually searching each TV channel’s listings and uploading them to a website, it’s a massive time-saver.”

Bringing in New Faces

Beyond advertising fixtures, FANZO promotions have also helped the Queens Head attract new customers. Steve shares some memorable moments:

“The Guinness Six Nations promotions have always been great for getting new faces through the door. But one of the most memorable was a Wimbledon Pimms promotion - suddenly, you had groups of blokes walking around with jugs of Pimms.”

A Valued Partnership

Dom at FANZO comments:

“Steve and the Queens Head have been an integral part of FANZO’s journey. His feedback over the years has helped shape our platform to better serve independent venues like his. We want every venue that shows sport to have a fair shot at getting in front of fans searching for places to watch".

Showing sport is a huge opportunity, but it’s not just a case of getting the right channels and expecting customers to turn up. The challenge is getting the message out there - and that’s where FANZO Venues comes in. It’s a simple tool that takes the hassle out of advertising, letting venue managers tick that job off their list in just a few minutes a week.

We’re excited to see how the partnership continues to grow!”
